Electromyography(EMG) :
What is the EMG test ?

The EMG test or electromyography test is a medical test that measures the health and activity of our body muscles. When our muscles remain active, then it produces electric current, which usually corresponds to the level of activity of the muscles. This test is used to record the electric activity in the muscles and therefore the focus is to gather information about the muscles and nervous system. It is the means of finding weakness in the muscles or the causes of paralysis and other muscles of different forms such as numbness, pain, injury or damage.

Doctors can write an EMG test for neuropathy. The term neuropathy is used to describe the problem of nerves. Many times the 'peripheral nerves' are opposed as 'central nervous system'.

The EMG test can be determined for Carpel Tunnel Syndrome, which is essentially on the hands, which causes other symptoms such as numbness and tingling stimulation. Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can cause prick of the wrist vein.

EMG Test process

  • EMG test can be done in doctor's office, hospital or lab.
  • The process of EMG generally takes thirty to sixty minutes, and this test also depends on the number of muscles.During the procedure, a needle is inserted into the patient's muscles through the skin.
  • This is done to record the electrical activity of the muscles.
  • All these recordings can be seen on oscilloscope and can be heard with the speaker. Since our skeletal muscles are often larger, then many electrodes needing to be placed at different places in the body to achieve the wide results of the EMG test.

During Test

  • the doctor or technician can ask you to shrink the muscles because the doctor needs to study when the muscles are light and fast shrinking.
  • The size and shape of the wave is produced on the oscilloscope with contraction and the rest of our muscle gives information about the reaction to the nerve stimulation.
  • Every muscle produces a possible action on fiber contraction.
  • Its size affects the size and size of the potential action.
  • When needed, position of needle or electrode can be changed to repeat the process.
Before the EMG test, your doctor will ask you to take some precautions. Before the test, you can not use any type of lotion on your body and can not take tea or coffee too.Apart from this, no special preparation is necessary for adults. For infants and children, however, physical and psychological preparation depends on the age of the child, behavior and prior experience (if any).
If you consume any type of medication or have ever done it before, you must tell your doctor before going to the EMG test and take their opinion.
