An echocardiogram is also called an echo or cardiac ultrasound. It is a painless test that takes pictures of the heart using sound waves.

During The Test

• You will wear a hospital gown.
• You lie on your left side on a table.
• Gel is put on your chest. A wand is moved across the gel to take the pictures.
• You can see the pictures of your heart on the screen and also hear sounds of your heart.

Test results are sent to your doctor. Your doctor will share the results with you.
